Privacy Policy

Summary

• Sandbook does not collect your personal data. There is no account, no sign-in and no advertising.
• All text-to-speech conversion runs locally, on your device. The speech model and all of its voices are bundled inside the app.
• Your books, documents, text, scanned pages and any audio made from them stay on your device and are never uploaded to a server.

What stays on your device

• Files you import (EPUB, PDF, Word, TXT, RTF, Markdown and HTML) are copied into the app's own sandbox. Deleting a book from your library removes that copy and does not touch your original file.
• Pages you scan with the camera, and photos or screenshots you pick, are recognized on the device. The recognized text is kept in your library; the images are not uploaded anywhere.
• Your reading position, the voice and speed for each book, your favorite voices and your reading options are stored in local app preferences.
• Audio you export is written wherever you choose to save it through the iOS share sheet.

When Sandbook uses the internet

Reading, speech, scanning and export all work with no connection. When you add a web page, with Paste a link or by sharing it from Safari, Sandbook fetches that page, and its cover image or icon, directly from the site that hosts it, the way a browser would. There is no Sandbook server in between. The details are on the private text-to-speech page.

To keep the app stable, Sandbook receives anonymous crash and diagnostic information that is not linked to you and contains none of your books, text or file names.

Permissions

• Camera, only when you choose Scan Pages. Text recognition happens on the device.
• Photos are chosen through the system picker, so Sandbook never gets access to your photo library, only to the pictures you pick.
• Files you pick yourself, so the app can import them.

Sandbook does not ask for microphone, contacts or location permission.

Device security

Because your content is not held on a server, its security is the security of your device. Keep iOS and the app up to date, use a passcode or biometric lock, and be deliberate about what you share out of the app through the share sheet.

Children

Sandbook has no accounts and no personal profiles, and it does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children.
